The PixelYourSite plugin is excellent for e-commerce sites; in fact, that is its primary purpose. In the first post, Installing PixelYourSite on Your Site – we explained how to implement the plugin and pixels. In the previous post – Advanced Settings in the PixelYourSite Plugin we explained how to configure smart events that will be used to create smart audiences from our site, implement Google Ads conversion codes, and additional codes.
In this post, we will learn how to configure the plugin for e-commerce sites, send events to Google Ads, Facebook, and Google Analytics, track Google Ads conversions in WooCommerce, build events for your biggest and most profitable customers, create a catalog feed for Facebook and Google, and solve various issues.
Event Settings in WooCommerce
PixelYourSite fully integrates with WooCommerce, the WordPress e-commerce plugin, and automatically triggers events related to e-commerce. If the WooCommerce plugin is installed and active on your site, you will see a dedicated tab in the main menu. Click on it to access WooCommerce settings.
With the plugin, data will be sent to Facebook and Google Analytics automatically, and later we will learn how to send it to Google Ads as well.
Enabling or Disabling Events in WooCommerce
You can enable or disable all WooCommerce-related events using the Enable button. If you change the toggle, remember to save the settings.
Connecting the Facebook Pixel to WooCommerce
The plugin will automatically add the standard events for Facebook e-commerce sites, plus a few additional custom events that can be useful for your data analysis.
Setting up the pixel for dynamic remarketing ads
All e-commerce events are added automatically with the 2 parameters required by Facebook:
content_type – either product or product group
content_ids – the ID number of each product
The following events are added to the pixel to create dynamic ads:
ViewContent – on individual product pages
ViewCategory – on category pages
AddToCart – when a specific product is added to the shopping cart
Purchase – when the product purchase is completed
Important: To run dynamic remarketing ads, you need to have a product catalog. You can create one using the Product Catalog Feed plugin. We will learn about this later.
Implementing Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking in Google Analytics
The plugin automatically sends Enhanced Ecommerce data to Google Analytics, such as transaction amount, tax, shipping, products, and product categories, as well as parameters like product views, additions to cart, removals from cart, checkout, and purchases. The tracking is performed automatically, and you can analyze and compare the statistical data within Google Analytics e-commerce reports.
Advanced Tools in WooCommerce
How to Track Google Ads Conversions in WooCommerce
Open the WooCommerce tab and look for the Track Purchases setting. Click the header to expand the options and look for the conversion label field, toggle on the Enable the purchase event on Google Ads option, paste the conversion label from your Google Ads account, and save the settings.
Options for the "AddToCart" Event
You can control where the AddToCart event will trigger:
- On Add to Cart button clicks
- On the shopping cart page
- On the checkout page
Usually, it is sufficient to set the Add to Cart event to the click of the Add to Cart button, but there are special situations where you might need the other options, such as when the site redirects directly to the shopping cart page immediately after adding to cart.
Adding Events for Your Most Important Customers
3 custom events can be added by PixelYourSite that can help you identify transactions made by your most important customers.
These are useful events in Facebook and Google Ads (via Google Analytics). You can create custom audiences and run remarketing on them. In Facebook, you can expand targeting using Lookalike audiences. This way, you can find new potential customers with a profile similar to your most important existing customers. In Google Ads, once you have a sufficient number of users in your base audience, you will be able to use Similar Audiences to find new potential customers.
Repeat Customer – under FrequentShopper Event
This event is triggered when a customer has a minimum number of transactions. By default, the minimum number is set to two transactions, but this can be changed to configure the plugin to tag repeat customers based on a minimum number of purchases on the site.
VIP Customer – under VIPClient Event
The event will trigger when the customer has a minimum number of transactions and the average order exceeds a certain threshold. By default, the number is set to trigger on a minimum of 3 transactions with an average value of 200. However, you need to decide who your most profitable customers are.
Big Customers – BigWhale Event
The event will trigger when the customer reaches a minimum spending threshold on the site. By default, the minimum is set to 500.
Setting Up a Custom Thank You Page
The purchase event is triggered on the default WooCommerce thank you page. If you want to use custom thank you pages, you will need to use an additional plugin, part of the Super-Pack bundle. The plugin will allow you to set a custom thank you page for the entire site, or a thank you page for each product individually.
Important: For this to work, the redirect must be configured only with the PixelYourSite plugin.
Site-wide Custom Thank You Page
To set up a site-wide custom thank you page for WooCommerce, open the Super Pack from the right menu of PixelYourSite Pro. Look for the Custom Thank You Pages tab and enter the link of the custom thank you page you want to use.
Order Details
You can display the cart details on the site-wide thank you page. There are 3 options:
– Hidden
– After page content
– Before page content
Once finished, click the Save Settings button.
Custom Thank You Pages by Product
You can set up custom thank you pages to be used when specific products are purchased. Edit the desired product and look for PixelYourSite settings in the right column. Check the Enable Custom Thank You Page box. Enter the URL of the page you want to use as a custom thank you page for this product. You can use a product-specific custom thank you page when:
- Only this product is in the cart
- This product is in the cart along with other products
Order Details
You can display the cart details on the site-wide thank you page. There are 3 options:
– Hidden
– After page content
– Before page content
Once finished, click the Save Settings button:
Tracking PayPal Payment Clicks
You can track PayPal payment clicks
Under Track WooCommerce PayPal Standard clicks, an event can be fired when clicking the PayPal payment button. You can choose the event type from the standard events list, or define your own custom event. By default, the event configured for use is AddPaymentInfo.
Important: Do not send a purchase event if you are also using the default purchase event. This will lead to duplicate counting of your sales.
Setting Up a Thank You Page in PayPal
In order to track sales (monitor the purchase event), your customer needs to land on a thank you page after payment (or the custom thank you page). If you use payment via PayPal, the payment is processed on the PayPal website. In this case, you must configure auto-return within your PayPal account, so that your customers are automatically redirected to a thank you page after a purchase.
Auto-return
Open PayPal, click on the top settings gear, and open My Selling Tools. Look for Website preferences and click Update.
Look for the Auto-return option, enable it, and add your thank you page URL:
Which URL to use when redirecting to the thank you page?
The recommended default URL is this:
https://www.example.com/checkout/order-received/?utm_nooverride=1
It is very important to add the parameter ?utm_nooverride=1 at the end of the link so that PayPal will not appear as a traffic source for purchases in Google Analytics.
Custom Thank You Pages
If you have configured custom thank you pages with the Super Pack plugin, you can use any URL, since the actual URL the visitor returns to is sent as a parameter based on what you defined in your product.
Catalog Creation Plugin - Product Catalog Feed for WooCommerce
Using this plugin, called Product Catalog Feed for WooCommerce, you can create an automatically updated product catalog for:
- Facebook Product Catalog – The plugin allows you to generate an automatic XML product catalog, thereby connecting your products to the Facebook catalog. You can also download the feed as an XML or CSV file.
- Google Merchant – The plugin allows you to generate a product catalog that updates automatically as an XML format that easily connects to Google Merchant
How to generate a product feed?
After downloading and installing the plugin, click on Product Catalog Feed in the WordPress menu and then click on Create New Feed:
Name the product feed and choose whether the feed will be tailored for Google or Facebook:
After a few minutes, the feed will be ready. You can click on Copy feed URL to copy the feed link and put it in the Facebook Catalog / Google Merchant – in addition, you can easily edit, delete, or turn it off:
Setting the Product Feed Update Frequency
Under Global Settings, you can configure how frequently your feeds will update; it is recommended to update them on an hourly basis:
Promoting Your Recent or Best-Selling Products
Under feed settings, in Smart Settings, you can add a “recent-product” tag to your latest products. The “top-30-days” tag will be added to your best-selling products in the last 30 days.
Furthermore, you can determine how many products will receive these tags and use them to create product sets in Facebook, and product groups in Google Merchant.
These tags will appear under custom_label_0 – and this way you can use them to generate product groups or audiences.
Customizing Each Product in the Catalog
In the settings of each product in WooCommerce, additional settings will appear for the plugin’s catalog: you will be able to choose whether to include or exclude a specific product, set its condition, add an MPN or GTIN, select categories for Google, or add two additional images that can be used for the product. You can also replace the default URL for the product with a custom URL:
