The coronavirus arrived and changed the rules of the game in the digital industry. The data is very surprising, but it aligns with the general trend in the economy. The average salary dropped sharply, there is a wave of layoffs and unpaid leave, as well as salary cuts. That is why I prepared the Digital Marketing Salary Survey for 2020.

Digital Marketing Salary Tables - Conclusions:

Digital Marketing Salary 2020 – In the digital marketing salary tables we see that the average salary dropped significantly in the past year from NIS 13,620 to NIS 12,227. There is a significant decrease of 10% in salary, 39% of employees were placed on unpaid leave or laid off, and 34% had their salary or hours cut. From these figures and the economic situation, one can also understand the decline in the number of employees who want to become self-employed – 18% compared to 24% in the previous year. We see that employees with up to two years of experience are the ones who were hit hardest, and their salaries dropped drastically compared to last year. The average salary for a Digital Marketing Manager is NIS 12,925, and for a PPC Manager the average salary is NIS 11,500.

Another change we see this year is a significant increase in bachelor’s degree holders in the field, a total of 73% of industry employees hold a bachelor’s degree (compared to 67% last year), and a slight decrease in master’s degree holders – 21% compared to 23% in the previous year.

More COVID-19 data: 30% of salaried employees went on unpaid leave and 9% were laid off from their workplace. 22% had their salaries cut, and 12% had their hours reduced. These figures explain the big difference in salary satisfaction data this year compared to last year: the number of respondents who expressed satisfaction with their salary dropped from 68% last year to 54% in 2020.

And which field is best to work in? We see that in the PPC field there is also a significant drop of 22% compared to last year (a decrease of NIS 3,289). In the social media field, people earn the least (NIS 9,115), a decrease of 8.5% from the previous year.

On an optimistic note, 75% see an improvement in the volume of work since the start of the pandemic and 64% of employees continue their work routine from the office.
