What do we know about Instagram in Israel?

♦ Although we saw an increase in the number of new users in Israel, the increase is not drastic, going from 4,500,000 to 4,800,000, but in terms of daily active users, we can see that we rose by over 50% from 2.3 million daily users to 3.5 million. Also in Instagram Stories, it can be seen that the increase in new users is not particularly high, 3.8 million compared to 3.5 million  in the previous year, but daily users in Stories did increase relatively significantly from 1.8 million to 2.6 million, an increase of about 45%. The most significant increase is in Reels, which rose from 2,000,000 to 3,400,000—an increase of 70%.

♦ In the past, we saw an increase in the number of daily and monthly users on Instagram among ages 25-34 and ages 65+, but looking at this year, we see a decrease of 200,000 monthly users in the 25-34 age group. Among the 65+ age group, the increase continues, though not at a particularly significant rate—a growth of about 91,000 compared to 89,700 in the previous year. In the 18-24 age group, there is a small increase to 1.2 million compared to 1 million previously.

Penetration rate of Facebook vs. Instagram

♦ In the past, Facebook had a significantly higher number of users compared to Instagram, which began gaining momentum over the years. Looking at data from previous years, we see that the number of young people aged 18-24 was higher on Facebook at 1.4 million compared to Instagram at 1 million. Today the situation is different: the number of Facebook users among young people is dropping significantly to 618,300, while the number on Instagram is rising to 1.2 million. It can also be seen that in the 25-34 age group there is a decline in Facebook users alongside an increase on Instagram; Facebook, which stood at 2.2 million users, currently stands at 1.4 million, while Instagram stands at 1.5 million. For ages 35-44, Facebook drops from 1.3 million to 1.1 million, and Instagram rises from 750,000 to 840,600. In the 55-64 age group, Facebook still has a higher number of users at 622,600, but with a decline (650,000 previously), while Instagram rises from 22,400 to 309,600. Regarding ages 65+, there is actually an increase in Facebook usage from 559.9 thousand users to 629,400 today. Instagram also rises from 143.7 thousand to 238,400.

Are young people abandoning Instagram?

♦  It seems that this is where it’s heading; while in previous data the number of users aged 13-17 stood at 278.2 thousand, this year the number stands at 223 thousand—a decrease of about 55,000.

♦ In terms of gender, it can be seen that women account for a larger share of platform usage; while in the past they constituted about 52% of users (2.5 million), this year it stands at 57% (2.7 million), compared to men who increased from 2 million to 2.1 million and 43%.

What about our influencers compared to the previous year?

♦ Bar Refaeli maintains her position at the top with 3.8 million followers. Taking second place and pushing down names like Anna Zak, Yael Shelbia, Neta Alchimister, and others is none other than Noa Kirel, who rose to 1.8 million followers compared to 1.2 million. To be honest, we weren’t surprised, considering someone who reached the coveted 3rd place at Eurovision 2023.

♦ Israel Bidur is also making gains, jumping up the ladder from 1.2 million to 1.5 million followers. Someone who didn’t make the list this year but manages to maintain high engagement is Tomer Capone with 4.6%, taking second place in terms of engagement below Omer Adam with 4.61% engagement and an increase in followers from 858 thousand to 1.1 million. New names joining us are Ofira Asayag, taking 7th place (1.3 million followers and 2.84% engagement), and in 10th place closing our followers list are Eviatar and Niki Ozeri, a humorous page showing Eviatar’s life with his dog Niki—something there is clearly working, as he takes 6th place on our engagement table with 2.89%. Remaining on the list are Neta Alchimister, Yael Shelbia, Anna Zak, and Rotem Sela, who remain fairly static in terms of followers and engagement.
