Recently, many advertisers have had their Facebook advertising accounts disabled without reason, and sometimes the entire Business Manager gets disabled too. The best solution to prevent an erroneous ban by Facebook is to verify your Business Manager.
In many cases, it doesn’t seem like you did anything wrong, and the reason for the account ban isn’t clear enough. It could be related to a specific period, such as the US elections for example, when the checks Facebook conducts are stricter and accounts are automatically banned by Facebook’s bots. There is a possibility that it’s related to the fact that following COVID-19, Facebook’s support team is reduced, and therefore Facebook relies heavily on automated processes. This can lead to automated, unclear, and frustrating responses for advertisers.
Of course, there is also an entirely different reason related to Facebook’s advertising policies, which you might not be complying with, leading Facebook to disable your account as a result.
Recently, many Facebook representatives have been offering a solution to advertisers: verifying their Business Manager. This doesn’t mean that Business Manager verification will solve all your problems and guarantee that your account will never be disabled, but it makes sense that Facebook will look more favorably and leniently upon verified business accounts than unverified ones. So let’s understand what Business Manager verification actually is.
Facebook Advertising Policies
Of course, if you violate Facebook’s policies and break the rules – you have no one to blame but yourself. But usually that’s not the case. I recommend reading the policies properly at the following link. And if it is a violation of advertising policies, you should contact Facebook support and, of course, act according to their advertising policies.
What is Facebook Business Manager Verification?
Business Manager verification allows Facebook to verify that the account is owned by a real business. In order to verify your Business Manager, you will need to provide the following information:
- Identity confirmation – ID card / driver’s license / passport
- Your business details – (Business name, address, contact details, etc.)
- Verified business contact details (phone / email and website domain verification)
Why is Verification Important?
If you connect your business to Business Manager, it makes it easier for Facebook to assign accountability. And it makes it much harder to attempt to circumvent rules and policies. Ultimately, Facebook should look more favorably upon any verified Business Manager. But this also means you need to be extra careful even if the account is no longer unverified. You must follow the rules.
How to Verify Your Business Manager?
First of all, confirm your identity – go to the following link
Click on Start Identity Confirmation, and upload an ID card, driver’s license, or passport
After uploading the identification document, you will see that your identity is confirmed:
First, go to your Business Manager and click on Security Center. Click the “Start Verification” button at the bottom of the screen to begin verification.
Important note: Is the button grayed out? Create a placeholder app here: https://developers.facebook.com/apps, by clicking Create App, link it to your Business Manager, and the option should become available.
Important – Make sure to provide accurate information – do not submit inaccurate information, because then Facebook will shut down your Business Manager permanently and you will never be able to get your account back.
After starting the process, there are several steps you need to follow:
1. Verify Your Identity
Not everyone needs to verify their identity; it is likely that Facebook will ask to do so if you want to appeal a decision to disable your account. You will need to upload a photo ID or two other forms of non-photo identification documents. You will not be able to proceed to the next step until Facebook reviews and confirms your identity.
2. Enter Your Business Details
Enter the business name as registered with the Registrar of Companies, address, phone number, and a link to the business website.
3. Select Your Business
Facebook will show you a list of businesses that match the details you entered. Select your business from the dropdown list. If your business is not listed, you will need to upload official documents. If the business is confirmed, you will not need to proceed with the next steps.
4. Confirm Your Business Details
Verify that all the details are correct and click on Next
5. Receive a Verification Code
Select a phone number you have access to and click on Text Me. Another option is to enter your email (business email only, not Gmail) and receive a code:
6. Verify Your Domain
You need to verify your domain; this will require you to add code to your website. Domain verification is important.
To verify your domains, you need access to the website’s code. Go to Business Manager Settings, and on the left side, click on Brand Safety and then on Domains. Click on Add to add a domain:
Enter the domain you want to verify and click on Add Domain.
There are three different ways to claim domain ownership:
1. Add a text record (TXT) in the DNS settings of your domain
2. Upload an HTML verification file to your website.
3. Add a meta-tag containing the verification code to the header of your website’s home page.
If you are not a developer, reach out to a developer to do the work for you.
After you have completed one of the options, click on Verify
If you want to share domain verification with another Business Manager, do so by clicking Assign Partners under the domain name:
That’s it! Now your business is under review, and you will wait for verification to be completed:
If everything goes smoothly – your business will be verified and you will be able to see under Security Center that the business is verified:
Summary
If you connect your ad accounts to Business Manager, and connect your business and verify it, this makes it easier for Facebook to know which business is responsible for the advertising. And it makes it much harder to try to circumvent rules and policies. Ultimately, Facebook looks more favorably upon any verified Business Manager. But this also means you need to be extra careful with a verified Business Manager and not violate advertising policies.
